The evaluation test consists of a Pre-Test and a Post-Test. It was put together by Dr. Julia Beyeler, Ph.D. Education, of the University of Akron, Kathleen Bearer, M.A. Elementary Education and Principal at Oak Street Elementary, Orrville City Schools and Leann Deible, M.A. Elementary Education, First grade teacher. Orrville City schools. The Program Evaluation Standards book 2nd Edition by James R. Sanders, Chair of The Joint Committee on Standards for Educational Evaluation was used as a reference and guide in compiling the test.
Please use these pre-tests and post-tests to see how well your students benefit from our book.
Printer Friendly versions are also available on each test page.
The tests given are posted below; click the links to view the results. Beside each question you will see the % of how the students answered. There were 2 classes of 20 students given the test for each grade level, Kindergarten through Third grade.
The most notable improvement was that students gained a better understanding of what an addiction is and smoking cigarettes can make you sick. They also learned to say, "No thank you," if they were asked to smoke, to seek the help of a friend or an adult to help them not smoke, that a doctor can help an adult quit smoking and 100% of the students would help a friend avoid smoking after being exposed to the book.
There were a large percentage of students who answered questions with a "maybe" on the Pre-Test. On the Post-Test, after being exposed to the book, they answered those same questions with a positive response.
